Advocacy Opportunity: NPS FY26 Funding Letter
Good Reads: NYT: In the Cradle of the American Revolution, Telling History Her Way
Good afternoon,
As Congress begins work on the FY26 federal appropriations, the NPS 2nd Century Action Coalition has organized a sign on letter to Congress urging them to provide robust funding for the National Park Service, lift the hiring freeze and other efforts to undermine NPS staff, and to extend the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act until a full reauthorization can occur.
Letter is pasted below.
The signers are organizations, not individuals. If you are interested in signing, sent an email to Emily Douce at the National Parks Conservation Association that notes how you would like your organization listed. Emily can be found at: edouce@npca.org
Deadline is COB on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Good Reads
Over the weekend, the NY Times had a great piece on a young girl in Lexington, MA who was inspired by her love of history to organize a campaign around America 250 to engage more young people in the story of their community and nation. She locked down web domain Lexington250.org while in the first grade. Some of her early content concerned local leaders but historians are praising her efforts. It’s a great read and I thought it offers some clever ideas on how to engage kids with the America 250 efforts in local communities. The full article can be found here.
